FAQs

How does Something Borrowed work?
Simple. Book your wedding date and we'll send your camcorder kit ready to record.
Use the cameras throughout your wedding, pack everything back up afterwards and return the kit to us. We'll take the footage you've captured and professionally edit it into your own nostalgic wedding home movie.
Borrow. Record. Return. Relive.
Do we need to know how to use a camcorder?
Nope. The cameras are deliberately simple to use and will arrive ready to record, with a straightforward filming guide included.
You don't need to know anything about cameras, framing or filmmaking. In fact, we'd rather you didn't overthink it.
Who actually films the wedding?
Whoever you want.
Pick up the cameras yourselves, pass them around between friends and family, or put a few trusted people in charge. How the cameras move through the day is completely up to you.
Is this a replacement for a wedding videographer?
It can be, but it doesn't have to be.
Something Borrowed is intentionally different from traditional wedding videography. There's no videographer directing the day, setting up shots or making sure every key moment is captured.
If having professionally filmed coverage of specific parts of your wedding is important to you, we'd recommend using a videographer. If you want something raw, candid and nostalgic that feels more like an old family home movie, that's where we come in.
And there's absolutely nothing stopping you from having both.
What if the footage isn't perfect?
It probably won't be. That's part of the appeal.
Expect the occasional shaky shot, questionable zoom and imperfect framing. We're creating a home movie rather than a cinematic wedding film, and those little imperfections are part of what gives it its character.
We professionally edit the footage afterwards to bring the best moments together into your finished film.
What if something important doesn't get filmed?
Because we're not at your wedding operating the cameras, we can't guarantee that a particular person, moment or part of the day will be captured.
If there's something you absolutely want on film, we'd recommend putting someone in charge of making sure it's recorded.
How many camcorders do we get?
Each Something Borrowed kit includes two camcorders, giving you the freedom to have cameras in different places or moving between different groups throughout the day.
How much can we film?
Your cameras will arrive with memory cards and batteries ready for your wedding. The two cameras are plenty to cover your full day, from getting ready to late into the evening.
We'll also include simple guidance on getting the most from your cameras throughout the day.
When will the cameras arrive?
Our standard hire period runs from Thursday to Monday, giving you plenty of time to unpack your kit, familiarise yourselves with the cameras and make sure everything is ready before the big day.
Your kit will be sent via tracked delivery, and we will share the tracking details with you so you know when to expect it.
If your wedding falls outside of our standard hire window, or you need the cameras for a little longer, just drop us an email and we'll do our best to arrange a hire period that works for you.
How do we return the cameras?
Everything you need to return your kit will be included.
After your wedding, simply pack the cameras and accessories back into the case they came in and return using the provided tracked return service by the final day of your hire period. Late returns will incur additional charges.
What happens if a camera gets damaged?
We know accidents happen.
You're responsible for taking reasonable care of the equipment while it is with you. If equipment is lost, stolen or damaged beyond normal wear and tear, you may be responsible for repair or replacement costs in line with our Hire Terms.
You can also add optional Equipment Protection when booking for additional peace of mind.
What does Equipment Protection cover?
Our Equipment Protection cover limits your financial responsibility for certain accidental damage to the hired equipment. It does not cover everything, including loss, theft, unreturned equipment or deliberate, reckless or negligent damage.
Full details of what is covered, any excess or liability limits and exclusions are detailed in the terms of booking this additional cover.
Equipment Protection is an optional damage waiver provided by Something Borrowed and is not an insurance policy.
What happens if one of the cameras stops working?
Every camera is tested before it is sent out, but technology can occasionally have other ideas.
If you experience a problem before your wedding, please contact us as soon as possible and we'll do everything reasonable to resolve it.
If a technical fault with our equipment materially affects your booking, this will be managed in accordance with our Hire Terms.
Do we get the raw footage?
Yes, the raw footage will be sent to you along with your final edit, meaning you can keep all the little clips that don't necessarily make the final cut.
How long will our finished video be?
Your finished Something Borrowed video will be approximately 3-4 minutes long.
The exact length will vary depending on how much footage you capture and how much of it is suitable for the final edit. We'd rather make a film that feels right than stretch footage simply to hit a pre-determined run time.
Can we choose the music?
Yes. Before we begin your final edit, we'll send you access to our music library so you can choose the track you'd like us to use.
All tracks in the library are appropriately licensed for use in your finished film, so you can simply choose the one that feels most like your day.
Once your chosen track has been confirmed and editing has started, it cannot be changed as part of the included round of amends. Changing the music requires the film to be re-edited and would therefore be subject to additional editing fees.
Can we request changes to the final edit?
Yes. Your package includes one round of reasonable changes to your finished edit.
This can include small adjustments to the edit, such as removing a particular clip or making reasonable changes with the footage available. Because we are working with what we captured on the day, we cannot add moments or angles that were not recorded.
Any additional rounds of changes, more substantial re-edits or music changes can usually be accommodated but will be subject to an additional editing fee. We will always confirm any additional cost with you before carrying out the work.
How long does the edit take?
Your finished edit will usually be delivered approximately 3-4 weeks after we receive your returned kit and footage.
Will you share our footage on social media?
Only with your permission. We love to share examples of Something Borrowed weddings, but we recognise your wedding is deeply personal and so booking with us doesn't automatically give us permission to use your footage for marketing purposes.
Where do you deliver?
Something Borrowed is based in Hampshire, UK and our kits are available to be shipped across mainland UK.
If you are outside of this area, please contact us directly for a bespoke booking package.
Can we take the cameras abroad?
Yes! You are welcome to take your Something Borrowed cameras with you for a destination wedding.
As our delivery and returns service is available within mainland UK only, you will likely need a longer hire period to give you enough time to receive the cameras before you travel and return them once you are back. Please contact us directly for a bespoke booking package around your travel dates.
How far in advance should we book?
As early as you like!
We only have a limited number of kits available for each date, so popular dates may book up in advance.
You can check your date online to see current availability.
